Galatians 5:16–17 NKJV
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another.”
The battle is not always what we think it is.
The battle is mostly between your two ears.
Every day we are making decisions: “Am I walking with Jesus? Am I walking in the Spirit, or am I walking in the flesh?”
Your flesh and your spirit do not want the same thing. Your flesh says, “This is how we’ve been living. This is how I want to live.” But your spirit says, “I want to walk with God. I want to go with God. I want to serve God.”
That is why spiritual disciplines matter.
Fasting is really FEASTING on God.
Fasting is not simply going without food. It is making room to feed your spirit while saying no to the desires of the flesh. It is a discipline that helps put your flesh in its rightful place.
Prayer, meditation, studying the Word, and fasting help train our spirit to do what it was designed to do—to give it space to run.
Here’s a challenge for you today:
Pay attention to which voice is louder—the desires of your flesh or what God is speaking to your spirit. Then choose to listen to your spirit!
