One of the first gates to your heart is your eyes. What we continually look at eventually shapes what we think, and what we think becomes the foundation of our heart. We often wonder how to guard our hearts, but Scripture begins by teaching us to guard what we allow through our eyes.
Job made a covenant with his eyes, saying, “I have made a covenant with my eyes. Why then should I look upon a young woman?” He made the decision that he was not going to use the eyes God had given him for any selfish desire that might dwell in his heart. David also declared that he would refuse to look at anything vile or vulgar. Neither waited until temptation came—they made the decision beforehand. That’s wisdom. The enemy doesn’t have to change reality. He simply tries to change what captures our attention. If he can redirect our focus long enough, he can slowly redirect our heart.
Today, ask yourself: What am I allowing to shape my thoughts? Make the decision now that your eyes will be fixed on things that draw you closer to Christ, not farther from Him.
