Luke 9:23 KJV
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Following Jesus is not a one-time decision — it is a daily surrender.
Jesus said if we are going to follow Him, we must deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him. That means there is a continual choice between feeding the flesh or yielding to the Spirit.
The truth of the matter is people often want the manifestation without the surrender. They want the glory without dying to self first. But throughout scripture there is always sacrifice before increase, seed before harvest, and surrender before resurrection life.
A seed has to go into the ground and die before it produces. Jesus had to go into the ground before He was resurrected. He did not just jump off the cross and skip the process. He died, went into the ground, and took on sin so resurrection life could come forth.
In the same way, dying to self means putting fleshly desires under so the Lord can raise you up into what He has called you to be. God has planted you for a purpose. There are things He has called you to do, but you cannot walk fully in them while holding onto your own will.
Many people only want the manifestation, but discipleship requires surrender. There comes a point where you have to come to the end of yourself and say, “Lord, not my will, but Yours.” That is where real growth begins.
Every time you choose obedience over comfort, faith over fear, and surrender over control, your inner man grows stronger. Daily surrender positions you for the work God wants to do through your life.
