Ephesians 5:18 KJV
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
God never fills something just for display. He fills it for a purpose.
A water pot is filled because it is meant to pour out. A gas tank is filled because the vehicle is meant to move. Our bodies need food and water to function, and our spirits need the Holy Spirit to function the way God created us to function.
We were not created to live empty, dry, or barely making it. God’s desire is for His people to be filled with His presence, His power, His love, His peace, and His glory.
When we are filled with the wrong things, we do not function properly. A car that takes gas cannot be filled with diesel and be expected to run right. It may sputter, smoke, and break down because it was filled with the wrong thing. Our lives work the same way. When we are filled with fear, anger, offense, worry, or the things of this world, we may try to keep going, but we will not function the way God created us to function.
But when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are filled with exactly what we need to fulfill the purpose God has for our lives.
Being filled is not just so we can feel better. It is so God can use us. He fills us because He has something for us to do. He has people for us to love, places for us to serve, prayers for us to pray, and assignments for us to walk out.
You must be filled. If you are not filled, you cannot pour out what God has placed inside of you.
