Psalm 37:21 NLT
“The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.”
I want to remind you of who you are as a Christian.
When you are found in Christ now, you come from the best. You come from the top, not the bottom.
When we become believers and accept Jesus, we come into His family, and we take on His characteristics.
God is love, so we walk in love.
God is generous, so we become generous.
God gave freely to us, so now generosity begins to flow from our spirit.
Psalm 37:21 says, “The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers.”
That is not just something we are trying to become. That is who we are in Christ.
The godly are generous givers.
Generous means abundance. Open-handed. Willing to bless. Ready to give.
Sometimes our spirit wants to be generous, but our flesh starts talking.
“Well, I don’t know.”
“I just can’t.”
“What if I don’t have enough?”
But we are not supposed to be led by our flesh. We are supposed to be led by the Spirit.
Your spirit is generous because you are of your Father.
So be true to your spirit.
There is a lot of talk in the world about being true to yourself, but as believers, we need to be true to our spirit.
The real you, the born-again you, wants to obey God, walk in love, and be generous.
You do not give to earn God’s love.
You give because you love God.
You do not give from an empty place.
You give from the life of God on the inside of you.
So here’s a challenge for you today:
Ask the Lord, “How can I be generous today?”
It may be with your finances, your time, your words, your encouragement, or your help.
Then obey Him.
Because in Christ, you are not selfish, fearful, or bound by lack.
You are godly.
You are generous.
