Matthew 5:16 NLT

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

The light that you shine is rooted and grounded in your love for people.

God is love. And if we are made in His image and His likeness, then His love should be what people hear, see, and feel through us.

That does not mean love is always easy or comfortable.

Love is sometimes being willing to have a hard conversation. Love is sometimes being willing to do the hard thing with a genuine heart because you know what’s best for the person even when they don’t.

But if our motive is truly rooted in love, it will not come from a harsh place.

Our purpose is not to draw attention to ourselves. That’s the purpose of our lives—is to glorify God.

We’re like little mirrors who, when the world looks in, they see the reflection of God coming off. They see the light that we were created to be.

Ministry is not only what happens inside the church building.

Ministry is what happens out there.

It is shining your light and living in such a way that people can see something different in you—and ultimately see Him.

Here’s a challenge for you today:

Look for one person you can encourage, help, listen to, or show kindness to today. Let your motive be simple: love God, love people, and let Him be glorified through you.
