Ephesians 5:19-20 KJV
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Being filled with the Spirit is not a one-time moment. It is continual. We need to be filled again and again.
A person does not eat one meal and expect that meal to last the rest of their life. A battery can lose power even when it is not being used. Water that just sits becomes stagnant. In the same way, we cannot live off something God did years ago and expect to stay strong today.
We need a continual filling of the Holy Spirit.
One way we stay filled is through worship, thanksgiving, prayer, and releasing what God has put inside of us. As we worship, we are pouring out to God, and at the same time He fills us. As we serve, love, pray, encourage, and obey, we are releasing, and God continues to fill.
When we are filled with the Spirit, it affects our words, our thoughts, our attitude, our thankfulness, our relationships, and how we respond to life. We do not have to let the outside control the inside. The river of God begins to flow from the inside out.
Stay filled. Stay thankful. Stay flowing.
Reflection Questions:
1. What helps me stay spiritually filled during the week?
2. Where have I allowed life, frustration, or busyness to drain me instead of going back to God to be filled again?
